About Seydikemer

Seydikemer is a district filled with natural and historical riches throughout all four seasons, offering sea, sand, nature, history, culture, and thermal springs that reflect the beauty of Muğla province. Originally a neighborhood of Seydiler village, Seydikemer became an independent village in 1946 under the name “Kemer.” Later, in 1996, Kemer gained municipal status, and on November 12, 2012, it officially separated from Fethiye and was recognized as one of Muğla’s districts under the name “Seydikemer” through a law passed by the Turkish Grand National Assembly. According to 2022 data, Seydikemer has a population of 62,622. It is one of the rare regions in the world where life has continued uninterrupted since ancient times. Influenced by different civilizations throughout history, Seydikemer boasts a rich historical heritage. With its unique geography, historical sites, and natural beauty, the district offers visitors an unforgettable experience.

Where Does the Name Seydikemer Come From?

The name “Seydikemer” is derived from two words: “Seyit,” meaning “descendant of a prophet,” taken from “Seydiler,” and “Kemer,” inspired by the historic bridge that connects both sides of the town. These two words were combined to form the town’s long-standing name.
