Butterfly Valley is a natural treasure located within the borders of Ölüdeniz town, Fethiye district, Muğla province. Surrounded by steep rocky walls reaching 350 meters, the Valley takes its name from the more than 80 species of butterflies it hosts, especially the Tiger butterfly. The waterfall, whose source is in the village of Faralya and pours into the Valley from a height of 50 meters, reaches the Mediterranean through a stream passing through the middle of the Valley.
One of the two main features of the Valley is that it is isolated from the outside world by the sea and steep cliffs, and the other is that it is not affected by environmental pollution as much as possible. When the environmentalist attitude of the Valley businesses and their efforts to protect the Valley are added to this, the Valley has literally turned into a natural life park.
That’s why the butterfly population of the Valley is higher than in other places. Although tiger butterflies (Eupoglia Quadripunctaria) are not a species unique to the Valley, as some people mistakenly believe, they are a species that you will be excited to see in “colonies” in the wetlands and secluded places of the Mediterranean and, correspondingly, in the waterfalls region of the Valley, along streams.
